Dear Computer User,

Most IT support feels like talking to someone who speaks another language. You explain the problem, they reply with technobabble, and you end up more confused than when you started! I do things differently.

When you contact me, you're not getting a call centre or a rotating cast of technicians. You're getting me, someone who remembers your setup, understands your needs, and won't make you feel silly for asking. I've worked with some clients for over 15 years. They stay because I treat their problems like they matter, explain things in plain English, and always give honest advice. Whatever the problem, I'm your geek for computer repairs. My goal is to leave your machine running better than before, and help prevent the same thing happening again.

Sound good? Read on...

Why people trust me

My promise to you

Most computer repair worries come down to feeling kept in the dark or overcharged. Here is exactly what you can expect from me, every single time.

Upfront, honest pricing

The price I quote is the price you pay. I will always call you before doing anything that changes the cost, so there are no hidden fees and no surprise bills.

No fix, no fee

If you bring something to me and I cannot put it right, you do not pay a penny. If I come out to you, the only thing you pay is the call out for the visit, never for a repair that did not work. The repair risk is mine, not yours.

Your data stays private

I never copy or keep your files, and I will not open anything on your computer without asking you first. Your private things stay private.

You deal with me, not a call centre

When you get in touch, you reach me, not a call centre. If I am busy on a repair and miss your call, just leave a message and I will ring you back as soon as I can. I keep you in the loop the whole way, so you are never left wondering.

Honest advice

Honest advice comes as standard. I will tell you straight if something is not worth repairing, and I will never charge you for work you do not need. Bring a quick problem to me and a five minute fix will not cost you an hour.

Six month guarantee

Every repair is covered for six months against the same fault coming back, so you can relax once the job is done.

The difference you will notice

Most computer repair complaints come down to the same handful of things. Here is how I do it differently.

A typical repair shop
  • A low quote that climbs once they say they have found more problems
  • Days of silence, and you have to keep chasing for an update
  • Your device kept until you pay for work you never agreed to
  • Cheap parts fitted without telling you
  • Your files wiped or looked through
  • A rotating cast of technicians, so you end up having to explain everything from scratch every visit
  • You're just another soulless ticket in their system
With me
  • The price we agree up front, with a call before anything changes it
  • You deal with me directly and I keep you posted
  • You only pay once the job is done and you are happy
  • Quality parts, and I tell you exactly what I am fitting
  • Your data never copied, kept or opened without your say so
  • The same person every time, even three years later, who remembers your setup just how you like it
  • You are a person with a name, not a ticket number in a queue, and I treat your problem like it matters

Honest about timing: I will give you a realistic idea of how long your repair will take, and I will let you know right away if a part is on order. No empty same day promises.

1. What can you fix?
  • Microsoft Certified Windows (Including: Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, Vista, Windows XP)
I am certified by Microsoft to provide desktop and laptop support service for all versions of Windows. That means I can perform essential maintenance, restore and repair Windows, update Windows, install upgrades, perform virus removal, remove harmful spyware, and troubleshoot Microsoft applications like Word and Outlook. Windows 10 is now out of support for most home users. I can upgrade your computer to Windows 11, even if it's not officially supported, and make sure things are not too different than before. If you're still on Windows 10 or due an upgrade, let me get you up to date.
  • Linux Tired of Microslop? If you have had enough of Office subscriptions you never asked for, adverts pushed into your own computer, constant nagging to sign in, and updates that change things you liked, there is another way. I can take all the Microsoft out of your life and move you over to Linux, a free, fast and private system, set up to suit how you actually work. Your files, your photos, web browsing and email all still there, just without anyone watching over your shoulder or charging you every month. It does not suit everyone, so I will give you an honest opinion on whether it is right for you first. If that sounds good, let's have a chat.
  • Desktop PCs I work on most Windows desktop PCs, including Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus and others. If your desktop is slow, noisy, overheating, won't start, needs an SSD upgrade, has a virus, or needs data recovery, let me take a look.
  • Laptop repair service Laptops I work on most Windows laptops, including Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus and others. If your laptop is slow, overheating, won't start, has a broken keyboard, needs an SSD upgrade, has a virus, or needs data recovery, get it booked in.
  • Hardware I am also experienced in the installation and repair of hardware for your desktop or laptop. I can troubleshoot and repair your computer's memory (RAM), hard drive (data recovery), external hard drive, solid state hard drive (SSD), processor (CPU), motherboard, video/graphics card, power supply unit (PSU), keyboard, sound card, CD drive, DVD, mouse, modem, router, and USB devices. If your system has run out of space, I can provide more disk memory for your pictures, documents, and music. If a part has failed or you'd like an upgrade, let me fix IT.
  • Data Recovery If your hard drive has failed or files have been deleted, I will recover as much as I can before you consider an expensive specialist lab. If I cannot recover anything, I do not charge for my time.
If you've lost something important, let me rescue your files.
Unlike other data recovery services, I cap my offsite data recovery (where I take your hard drive away to work on) at a maximum price of £180. (typical costs are £60-£120 depending on complexity)
  • Virus removal service Internet & Virus Problems I can set up your broadband or wireless (WiFi) network, replace your old modem with a fast wireless router, connect multiple PCs to each other, and secure your network against intruders. If you don't already have an anti-virus program, I will set up the best one available for you and run a full scan on your computer. Whether you have one PC in your sitting room or a small business network, I'll make sure your system is protected. If you've picked up a virus or your connection keeps dropping, let me clean it up.
  • Confidentiality Your data is completely safe with me. I will never make copies of data unless you authorise it and I will never keep any copies that are made. Any recovery copies I make will be handed to you or securely deleted afterwards. I never, ever keep copies of my client's data, unlike some companies. I will also never access any files on your computer without your permission, so your privacy is assured.
  • AI Help AI is everywhere now and it's easy to feel left behind, or to try it and wonder what all the fuss is about. I can show you which tools are actually worth your time, how to get genuinely useful answers out of them, and how to fit AI into everyday life without the hype or the jargon. If you would rather AI was switched off and out of your way, I can sort that too. Read about my AI consulting here.
  • Remote Support For smaller problems, I can help remotely over the internet. You stay in control, you can watch everything I do, and I can only connect after you give permission.
I can only see your screen when YOU click 'Allow'. I cannot access your computer without your permission. I charge £30 per half hour, or £15 for quick fixes under 15 minutes and you can pay via bank transfer or PayPal after the job is done.
Please note: There are a few things I can't fix. These include: laptop power connection/jack, broken hinges, tablets and phones, servers/workstations, Chromebooks, faulty graphics cards, and I currently do not support Apple products.

4. How Does It Work?

I understand that inviting someone into your home can feel a bit daunting. Here's exactly how the process works, so you know what to expect:

  1. 1 We chat about the problem, you tell me what's going on, and I'll give you honest advice on whether it's something I can help with.
  2. 2 I give you a booking time and estimate, no surprises. You'll know when I'm coming and roughly what it'll cost.
  3. 3 I arrive, fix the problem, and explain what went wrong in plain English, without jargon or technical talk.
  4. 4 Only when the job is done do you pay, no upfront fees. You only pay once you're happy with the work.
5. Do I get a guarantee?
6 Month Guarantee

I stand by my work, so all repairs come with a 6-month guarantee.

What does that really mean for you? Well, this ensures that if your computer breaks down with the same problem within 6 months of my repair, I will fix it free of charge.

Note: The guarantee covers the same fault returning. It doesn't cover new problems, viruses, physical damage, or issues caused by software changes.

That includes parts for the same fault.

6. What can you offer me that others can't?
Mike helping a client with their computer

With me, you always know what to expect:

  • 6-month guarantee on the work I do
  • The benefit of over 17 years of experience and professional hands-on training
  • Clear, fair prices without high-street repair-shop mark-ups
  • Personal attention and flexibility

If I can't fix it, you won't pay for my time

7. What else can you do?

If all that wasn't enough I also do custom Windows apps and simple websites for individuals and small businesses.

Custom Windows apps can take the slog out of repetitive work, things like organising and renaming files, batch processing, custom databases for customers or inventory, or any task that is eating up your time. I sit down with you, understand what is frustrating, and build something tailored exactly to how you work. Read more about bespoke apps here.

Simple websites for small businesses and individuals who want to get online without paying agency prices. Business sites, portfolios, blogs, simple online shops, or refreshing an existing site. I will guide you through it in plain English, help you pick the right hosting, and show you how to update it yourself so there are no mysterious monthly fees. Read more about web design here.

Either caught your eye? Drop me a message and we will have a no obligation chat about what you need.
